So, you have seen all your friends wearing Pirdie gear, and you want in. But, that little voice in your head says “I don’t play golf.” You naturally daydream of hitting the links with your girlfriends but quickly find all the reasons you can’t start golfing. Rest assured, you are not alone in your trepidation. Let’s help you find the path to green fairways and sunshine kissed social time with your closest friends. We promise, golf can be your thing.
"I DON’T HAVE TIME"
You are valid in your concern. Work, school, family, travel….it is hard to carve out time to golf! What if we told you golfing doesn’t have to be 4 hours and 18 holes. Trendy short courses are popping up all over the country, often in some of the most prestigious golf destinations historically known for their long, winding 18 holes. The average short course takes just about an hour to play, less than your average happy hour with the ladies! Still, if the idea of a course, short or long, is still daunting take more of a dabble approach. “Eatertainment” is thing; trendy, denim-friendly social eating/drinking spots where you can mix happy hour with some playful golf (indoor or outdoor). Justin Timberlake just opened 3’s in Greenville, SC and Topgolf has locations everywhere, and many locals spots are folding golf into the standard bar establishment such as The Golf Bar in San Diego and ROK Golf in Austin.
“I DON’T OWN CLUBS”
That’s actually a good thing! It takes time to develop your stance and swing, so it is actually better to “try before you buy”. Plus, almost every course has the ability to rent clubs and many of the places we mentioned above actually include them as part of your reservation.
“NONE OF MY FRIENDS GOLF”
We have just educated you on all the fun, “entry level” golf opportunities above. The way we see it is there are two options when lacking golf buddies. Option 1 - share the scoop with your friends and then surprise them with a new venue choice for your next girls’ gathering. Option 2 - diversification. They say diversify your investments. Well, maybe its time to diversify your friends too.
“I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO SUCK”
This one is simple… flip your mindset to “everyone sucks”. Also, you are correct...you are more than likely going to be terrible when you start. Own it, smile, don’t throw your club or yell profanities and realize its part of the journey.
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WEAR”
We said the same thing, then Pirdie was born. We got you… of course check any applicable dress codes at the short courses, but all of our Pirdie apparel should be an appropriate fit for any of the above golf outings. Pirdie attire is not meant to scream “GOLF!” when you wear it, so rest assured your girlfriends won’t wonder why you went all in on a new golf 'fit your first time.
